On the second day, I followed atang to send yaya to school. Yaya already met a new friend, named aishah, unfortunately after a placement test, yaya and aishah are separated. However, according to yaya, they continue meeting during recess.
After yaya left the assembly area for her class, we went home. And we came to school again during recess time. Just to make sure that she is OK. We encourage yaya to eat and drink food that we have prepared, although babah gave her 2 ringgit for her to spend. I strictly told yaya to not buy any drink from the canteen, except for packet drink. So far she just spend 1 ringgit to buy the cultur drink (solvite) from the canteen.
The first day she came home from school she told me that she didn't like the school. But on the second day, she came home happy, and said that she love the school. I found out later, she had playdoh during one of her lesson, and because of that, she changed her mind.
This is a story about a Malaysian family, currently living in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Celebrating Athirah @ Adik 1st birthday
5th of January, 2 exciting, memorable, once-in-a-life-time things happened: the day yaya started schooling, attending stardard 1 and the day thirah turned 1-year-old (read about thirah's arrival here).
Just a simple celebration for thirah. A birthday cake and lamb chops for dinner (though the lamb chops are only for adult, ahaks). Here are some pictures taken to mark the day.

Yaya 1st day @ school
On the first day of school, 5th of January 2009, yaya woke up at 6.30 am. The excitement of going to school made the job of waking up yaya more easier than what I have anticipated. I prepared scrambled eggs and toast for her breakfast, and pack a bun for her snack. I couldn't accompanied her to school that day, as I need to settle some things at home. So only babah was there at school with her. As atang doesn't like to carry a digital camera around, I kept reminding babah, during that wee hour, to have yaya pictures taken using his hphone. "Mama nak tengok hari pertama yaya kat sekolah", I said to atang.
On the first day, yaya was wearing pinafore. Soon after arriving at yaya's school, I received a text message from atang, saying yaya was the only one wearing pinafore. Everyone else was wearing baju kurung. Alahai kesiannya. So, that first day of school, is the last day yaya wore pinafore.
Yaya in her class. On her left is the first friend she met at school.
Babah accompanied yaya until recess. Then he went home, leaving yaya under the care of her temporary class teacher.
When she came home that day, she was not happy. She said, she doesn't like the school for it was not fun. I told her, this is the starting day. Everything has not settle. Wait until the session starts, then you will know how fun it is.
And soon, yaya forgets what a boring day she had that day.

Korek gambar-gambar lama
Ada tu rasa diri stay the same, tapi hakikatnya dah berubah 100%. Jadi gambar-gambar lama la menjadi bahan bukti utama kan.
Tujuannye satu je, mengimbas kenangan silam, yang pahit maupun manis, tapi banyak manis la, dah tu bergambar mesti time happy aje kan.
Bila letak gambar tu, seronok pulak rasa bila kengkawan pun turut sama imbas kisah2 disebalik gambar2 tu.
Den tak post la gambar-gambar tu kat sini. Gambar lama, kisah lama, bukan untuk dirungkai, tapi untuk dikenang aje. :D

Promo : Hannah Edible Image
My friend, Iza, has just expanded her business and launched "Hannah Edibile Image".
"Edible Image is real photo (of you/your favorite cartoon character/your loved ones/anything else in the world that you could think of) that is printed by using edible ink and frosted sheets(kertas gula). Then, the Edible Image will be applied to the plain cake/cupcake/cookie that has been iced. Any types of frosting can be used, such as Butter Cream, Fondant, Chocolate Ganache, Royal Icing, even frozen Ice Cream cakes. The quality of the photo determines the quality of the Edible Image. I would suggest a photo that has been captured using a digital camera, rather than the one using a mobile phone, as the later will usually produce a blur image."
If you want more information and place an order, please visit her site, here.

Warkah rindu
Ahaks.... menangkap tak tajuk tu :D...
This story is about yaya. We didn't tell yaya that we are coming home. We don't want yaya to be anxious waiting for us, furthermore, bothering her wan and atok by continously asking them about our arrival. So when we arrived at Mak's house 2 weeks ago, it was nearly maghrib at that time, and she was just getting dressed after her evening bath. Mak came out, carrying thirah and greated us. Then she called yaya, "yaya, tengok sape datang nie..". When she came out, she was so suprise to see us, until she didn't know what to do, and she was just standing at the door, standing still for a minute or two. Then she ran to me, and embraced me. Couldn't find an exact word to describe that situation, it was everything that relates to happiness and sad at the same time. But mostly happy. The look on yaya's face is indescribable. It's good that we kept it secret, so that we could experienced that lovely moment. The feeling of 'long-lost' and 'missing' combined with 'love', 'gratefulness', 'cheerfulness'........ I told you it is not easy to describe.
After we have settled down, Mak told me about yaya's letters, "Tiap-tiap hari, dia duduk kat meja abah kau, tulis surat." I was told that, about a month ago, yaya has been writing us, under the encouragement of her Wan and Atok. She just wrote some simple sentences like I Love You, Hello, and wrote our names on some printer papers (yang ada lubang kat tepi tu). She also drew pictures of us.
So, when I asked her about the letters, she smiled shyly and went to her wardrobe (yes she kept the letters in the wardrobe, of all other places ahahahahha), took out all the letters, and showed them to me. She must be following her Atok, for Abah used to write us letters when he was working away from home.
Am touched reading what yaya wrote and drew in those letters.

Katanya orientasi tapi.....
As a parents, we should be the one that handle yaya's school arrangement, though we owe a lot to my sistah, for helping preparing yaya's school uniforms, begs, stationeries etc. Thanks sistah. I owe u a lot.
Yaya school orientation was held on the 2nd of January, Friday. We need to be there before 8.30am, for there will be a taklimat given by the headmistress. It was written in the school letter, the briefing will start at 8.30am. Takde la terasa hati, cume, as a professional, benda nie sepatutnya tak tinggal. Yg pelik nya, tiap-tiap tahun melalui proses yang sama, takkan kelang kabut lagi kan. That was what I felt, I am not expecting some attention, but at least, kalau dah lambat tu, ambil tau la keadaan, bagi maklumat ke.
Lepas tu tempat duduk tak cukup pulak. Part nie susah nak citer la, sebab rasanya kalau parents aje yg datang, cukup tempat duduk tu. Tapi kalau dah adik beradik sume ngikut, ada yang atok wan jugak ngikut, tu yg tak cukup tu...adehhh..... Bagus camtu, bagi motivasi dan galakkan untuk anak-anak...tapi bila dah berdiri lebih setengah jam...panas pulak tu...sape tak hangin kan... perkara kecik pun akan jadi besar...... adehhhh....Ok abis ngomel bab taklimat
Bila dah abis taklimat, semua pelajar pergi ke kelas. Ingatkan sesi orientasi ke, atau ice breaking. Tapi sesi kutip yuran sekolah. Kalau camtu baik yaya tak payah ikut. Pulak tu bila tiba giliran kami, kami bagi salam, boleh pulak cikgu tu tenung aje, tak jawab salam. Kami rasa ackward sangat, terkedu terus. Lepas tu cikgu tu mintak surat tawaran, tanye lencana nak berapa, dan bagitau bayaran. Itu pun bleh tanye baki duit berapa kat kami. Adeh..... kami rasa macam, eh betul ke kami kat sekolah nie. Lepas tu takde pulak cikgu tu cuba nak borak ngan yaya. Jadi kami memang rasa no point aje untuk yaya ada kat situ. Dah selesai urusan, perkataan terima kasih pun tak keluar dari mulut cikgu tu.
Bukan nak down grade la cikgu-cikgu kat sekolah tu. Walau keje cashier kat supermarket aje. Tak cukup senyuman, ucapan 'How are you', 'How'r u going' tak pernah kami TAK dengar. Abis urusan, siap doakan kesejahteraan kami lagi.

Although they are happy and healthy, and are well taken care, invest some time to sit down and get to know them well. When you know them well, you will sense something amiss, in the future. When you know them well, they will respect you, and have trust in you. Trust will lead to harmony.
Don't take things for granted. Their future is in your hand..... at least for now.
(am talking from experience)

the moving Cost
Ohhh I hope this is the one and only moving we need to do here in Brisbane. Besides the exhausting period, there are some money that we need to set aside for this purpose. Here are the rough figure:
Hire movers = $40 on wkdays, $50 on wknd (we hired them on wkend, for 3 hours)
Utility moving/reconnection fees:
Telephone/fixed line = $59
Electricity = $28.70
Broadband = $99
Apa lagi ek...... hmmmmmmm
Oh yes!! Tu tak masuk cost peluh dan keringat....ahaks......

the NEW Crib..
WELCOME to our new crib. A bit smaller, but cosy. Windy, shady, cheaper (a lot cheaper). With some defect, but tolerable. And we LOVE the new place.
Rumah nie sejuk sikit, nyaman je rasa...terutama masa summer nie. Remember the movers that I wrote about in previous entries, the man said, "you have a good apartment here, because the old tenant was a good person, and now you move in here, so it has a good vibe". By coincidence, the movers also helped the old tenant to move out to a new place. Atang knew the tenant, a muslim indian or bangladesh family. Muslims, maybe that was what the mover refer to as a good vibe.

And, remember in some of my old entries, I did mentioned about a malaysian couple who live one level below us. At the new apartment, there is also a malaysian family living nearby, on the same level with us. Another good vibe ya...

We than continue @
… Alannah Hill…. Ahaks…. For a cuppa, and continue chatting. Mostly about Halida’s wedding. At one time we did talk about our childhood, our playground. We talked a little on culture. Halida, though came from Brunei, her childhood experience was so alike with us. Yela, serumpun kan. It was fun, exchanging stories.
(my cuppa)
About the coffee, all of us had different choice of coffee, oppsss….except for Sabrina, coz she doesn’t drink coffee. So, there were latte, cappuccino, mocha and hot choc on the table. In addition to that, four very cute chocolates, that was hunted down by Sabrina.
We finally went our way. After some hugs and smooches with Halida and Sabrina, and waved goodbye to Asrul, I walked back to my office, with a smile on the face, for spending time with friends, which can only happens irregular, maybe once or twice a year, on such a short notice, is the most wonderful, memorable time in your life. I had great times, and hope you guys did too.

the last lunch with bosom buddies, before new year
Last Monday, I had lunch with three best friends. We met at Krispy Kreame, Albert St, and then we, Halida, Sabrina, Asrul and me, headed to Hanaichi for lunch. Actually, the reason for this meeting is because Halida is going home to Brunei for good. So it was kind of our last lunch together (yup, the last lunch was not enough), reminiscing sweet memories, from the first time we met Halida.
Hanaichi is a restaurant that served sushi. I never like sushi before, but Hanaichi has changed my opinion about sushi. I found the sushi are very tasty. I had 3 plates, and wish I can eat more, but I was soooo full after the 3rd serving.
We sat in front of the conveyor belt for, I think, more than 1 hour. We have got all the time to choose the fresh sushi. People that sat beside us have come and go, but we were having such a wonderful time, eating and chatting, from talking about celebrities, to the VVIP and to Halida’s marriage, obscure to our surrounding. Halida is going to be married in June. Though she kept saying that she wants a simple wedding, am sure it would be something big and blast.
The restaurant waitresses kept coming to our table asking whether we want to add more drink. Or maybe they were wondering when we are going to leave the table…ahhahahaha… I glanced at the door, and saw people were lining up, waiting for available seats. Me and Halida had enough of sushi and were waiting for Sabrina and Asrul to finish. Sushi is Sabrina fav food. And I can say that sushi is Sabrina second name, ahahhaha, sorry mate, hope you are not offended by this. We left Hanaichi, but we didn’t end there. Instead, we were heading for somewhere else to continue our chit chat.
