Ramadhan Day 3: The tamar mission

Alhamdullillah, today is the 3rd day of Ramadhan. Today we have a mission, to find tamar, the kind that arabs usually eat with milk when breaking fast. This tamar is very special, because the tamar was soaked in the tamar juice and then pressed. Last year an arab post-grad student sadakah this tamar to muslims student at my office. That's how I came to know about this tamar. I was told by a colleague that you can find this tamar at some butchers around Brisbane, so we are heading there soon. I will post a picture of the tamar in the next entry.

It was so nice yesterday, having iftar with friends. The kids especially were happy. The adults were happy too, with the eating and catching up with each other.

Iftar Day 2
Iftar Day 2

I am off from cooking today. Someone is craving for Nando's today. Layan aje laa... it his special day today...hehehhe... oohhh but I want to make donut today, a request from the birthday boy. Ok then, till we meet again, selamat berbuka, biar sederhana.

Kite gi dinggum

Diggum is adik's jargon when she is referring to playground. Don't ask me how on earth she came up with that word, because neither I nor atang knows how.

Today, I don't have anything to ramble, just wanna post some of many pictures taken from the day out at Portside Wharf. Of all playgrounds we have been to, this is the best so far. The amenities, kids attractions are excellent, I especially like the breeze, and the view. Both yaya and adik love the place, maybe we will come again. OK enough say, enjoy the pictures.

A pose before leaving the apartment.

Yaya's favorite activity. These pictures were taken before she started to freak out of not able to climb further and the idea of jumping down scared her. She started crying for babah, but babah was looking after adik at the sandpit. End up I had to drag, well literally pull her down, eventhough she resisted, and later merajuk. hehe

Adik enjoys the sand.

Siap baring atas pasir...punye la suke dapat main pasir.

Main frisbee pulak, while adik can't still leave her sandpit

Going home, but first we need to wash our legs and hands.

Adik said bye-bye to the playground, "Bye-bye dinggum". She will always bid farewell to any dinggum before leaving. Sentimental betul budak kecik nih...

And our fun day ended...

Pheewwwwhhhh so exhausted both from the journey and the zoo adventure. Feel like resting and put my feet up for the rest of day. Wish I could read Cornwell book, been sitting on the shelf for months. But I have a good theory book to finish. Takpe fazid..tak lame je lagi...think positive...

Glad I have some soto left over and nasi lemak bought from the brisbane nasi lemak seller. We bought four nasi lemak for our lunch today, but still have two more packets. hahahahhahah...

OK...got to go. I had a very wonderful day today, spending time with love ones on this special day. And I am happy for today I received many happy and warm wishest from friends. Was surprised to see soo many wishes on my wall just now when I login to my fb. Thanks friends for the thoughts. Am totally speechless. So before I go to bed today, I must reply all the messages as a token of appreciation.

Who says writing is easy....

Alhamdulllilah... I have completed chapter 1 and emailed it to both sifoos. I thought I could finish it in 3 days, but I took 5 working days, about 40 minutes in total to complete it. But before I send it to sifoos, I did final review, and am satisfied with the outcome. But I am expecting a little more room for improvement, coz I felt my words were not smooth enough. But I think, I have tell the story more clearly. Anyway, I can now say, I have one completed chapter, and I can move on to the next 9 chapters (aiyah.... lets ignore the number). My target is to have a complete chapter (by complete I mean, the content, the story line is there, but maybe need more editing work to have a clean and smooth chapters) in two weeks. Yet I know, the LR chapter will need at least a month to do it. The date line is the first week of August. That is to come out with a complete draft, free from spelling and grammatical error. I sure need a proof reader to read it before I can hand over the complete draft to my sifoos for final review. Any volunteer? :D

Academic writing is not an easy task for me. Atang asked me why I spent a lot of time writing a paragraph, for I can write a post in no time for this blog. I said academic writing is not the same as creative writing. When I write this blog, it came straight from my heart. I just spilled out what I have on my mind, often I don't need fact to support my argument. And whatever I write today, it doesn't has to be valid, and may not apply for tomorrow.

On the other hand, in academic writing, you are writing a story that will contributes to the knowledge for the benefit of the people, nation, on the phenomenon you are researching. So you need to have the fact right. And you need to tell it in a language that anyone who have no knowledge about your research can understand. And you need to tell a convincing story. And you also need to relate your research with past researches. Senang citer, bukan suke-suke tulis la, for your own excitement and satisfaction.

Ahh sudah, dah mula bebel budak fazid nie. Don't get me wrong, I love writing. I think it is in my blood. But sometimes I can easily feel frustrated and demotivated when I am stuck at one sentence...yup...at one sentence. Last-last bangun dari kerusi, and carik yaya n adik. Phewwww... am so glad the kids are here. They are the one who keep reminding me the reason that I am here.

OK, tukar channel. I have a story to tell. Of late we noticed something about adik. Whenever we called home to talk with mak and abah, adik will be restless after talking to them. Especially after talking to her atok. She will has difficulty to fall asleep. Often woke up after a few minutes of dozing off. Many times, after she fell asleep, she will woke up and screaming for me. She will screamed at the top of her lung, and we didn't know what's troubling her. This has caused anxiety for both me and atang whenever adik falls asleep at night. Lately, I put adik to sleep in front of the TV, most of the time with Upin Ipin's vids running. Sometimes this works, other time she will demand this particular video I took of the kids back home in Malaysia. My conclusion is, she misses Malaysia a lot, and more of her atok. For a solution, atang suggested we shall not call home at night, a day time is preferable. We will see whether this solution will work. Kesian adik....

OK laaa...dah lama sangat nih... I should concentrating on my next task. Tomorrow I have a meething with the sifoos, to discuss my chapter 1. Suddenly I feel sooo nervous....

I end this post with some pictures of my two little princesses that we took at Southbank Parkland last Saturday. Masih lagi summer, so bagi chance diorang berendam puas-puas sebelum sejuk datang....

nasi campur di Brisbane

Seperti yang telah diceritakan...hujung minggu baru nie sibuk dengan barang-barang sekolah yaya. uniform, textbooks, scrap books, exercise books and stationaries; that we bought at the school. On Saturday, we went out to buy yaya's shoes and socks. Dah biasa sangat dengan mall dekat-dekat rumah, I suggested atang to go somewhere outside Brisbane area, so we went to Westfield at Garden City.

Punya la susah nak carik kasut yaya nih. Must meet the requirement of white shoes and socks (nih kalau kat mesia senang carik), sini banyak sekolah pakai kasut hitam atau kelabu. To make things worst, we want to find velcro shoes, tak la nanti cik kak nie lambat ngikat. Yaya nie kalau nak bersiap, kalah puteri agaknye, kalau orang dulu-dulu cakap, berjam-jam. Mandi berjam-jam, pakai baju berjam-jam, pakai bedak, sikat pun berjam-jam. issshhhhh.... Velcro tu kira penyelamat masa laaa. Kalau tak, terpaksa la beli kasut bertali, sebab tu memang senang nak carik. Selesai carik kasut sekolah, dah pukul 12 dah, perut lapar, tekak haus...tapi kena gi Coles dulu nak beli groceries.

Makan tengahari, di mana arah tuju kami, dekat Garden City tu. haaaa....dah dekat Mt Gravatt. Ada satu restoran halal kat situ. Dan teringat cakap our good neighbour pasal nasik campur kat situ...dah la tengah lapar betul....jadi kami pun ke Indonesian Tucker, 1981 Logan Road.

fuhhh.....alhamdullillah....sedap betul... nasi campur dengan 3 lauk. Tengok, gambar pun ambil bila dah separuh jalan makan....hahahhaha (sebenarnye segan nak ambil sebab ada satu meja tu penuh dengan keluarga dari seberang tengah berdiskusi). Dah lama betul tak makan nasi campur style gerai nih (arrrggghhh tetiba teringat zaman study dulu, asal tengahari, meredah Skudai carik gerai nasi campur yang berbeza2 :D).

Indonesian Tucker nie, a good friend and also my reader Maryam yang bagitau. Thanks Maryam,we had delicious meals. Can't believe I finished the whole plate, tapi memang sendat lepas tu...hahahhahah.... and I think the price is ok, with that amount of serving. But we only had nasi campur, so tak tau la yg lain ye...tapi jangan order nasi goreng ayam, sebab rasa nasi goreng biasa aje. And that was what yaya ordered, asyik dapat yang tak sedap aje si yaya nih...hehehhehe...

Ayam goreng Ayam goreng ala ala kayhepsi di Brisbane

Dah lama tak citer pasal outlet halal kat Brisbane. Kami pun dah lama tak makan kat luar. Towards end of last year, we were sooo busy even to eat out. Bila dah balik rumah, takde nye nak kuar balik, dengan hari yg pendek sebab winter, dan sejuk. Furthermore, there were only two of us, sesak-sesak atau malas giler nak masak, ada alasan pekena maggi kari atang....o la la...
Lagipun bukan banyak outlet halal kat Brisbane nie, ada beberapa tempat lagi yg kami tak pergi.
Country Chicken, located at McWhirters', tempat we all beli daging-daging kat Chinatown. Was not sure how long it has been there, but I believe not more than a year. Selalu gak lalu lalang kat walkway depan kedai tu, tp mmg tak perasan, rasanye dulu kedai lain. Anyway, I knew about this outlet from a friend, just before fasting month. So, have to wait after fasting month to try rite. And we spent two final weeks of fasting and eid at Malaysia, and only in November we able to try it.

The interior of Country Chicken.

And these were what we ordered.

Best...best... the only thing that we are not ok with is the burger. The fillet is too thick. It is chicken breast, jadik bila tebal camtu...cepat muak, mayo pun sikit jek. Tang nie mmg tak bleh lawan zinger burger.... errrkkk sape tau camne nak buat patty zinger burger tu tak?

Salam Maal Hijrah....Salam Tahun Baru

Salam kengkawan and friends. May everybody in good health. The new hijrah year has started, and soon the new year of masihi will come. Hope everyone has planned for the whole year. Wish a great success, wealth and health to all of you.

Thanks again for all the doa and prayers for my abah. I was back in Malaysia, a couple of weeks ago, for several days, to visit him. Though his condition is not promising, but alhamdullillah his spirit to keep going is still strong. We now hope for the best for abah. The tumor is at stage 4. What a shocked we had when we learnt the truth, and that is only after the doc told abah, with the presence of mak, along and bang long about abah condition, almost a week after the operation. I was on the way to the airport with my brother, heading home to Brisbane, when my sistah, along called my bro, and told him everything. I knew immediately, from the tone of my bro's voice, that it was not a good news. Yup, the bad news came just before I was leaving Malaysia, but not at abah bedside.

Abah is now recovering from the stiches and wound at home. Doc, on medical advice, unable to remove the stomach that was affected by the tumor. The medical team had to perform three bypasses to abah's intestines and colon, so all the food will no longer go into the stomach. As a result, abah has to change his diet to soft food. That was from my understanding. We will wait for the advice of an oncologist for abah's treatment. Meanwhile, we hope abah in stabil condition, hope everything is good for abah. What ever the doc said about his time, that is just on medical term, life and death is in Allah's hand.

A week after abah's operation, my sistah and her family, came and visit us in Brisbane. They spent 10 days here. The trip was already planned early this year. They were supposed to come a week earlier, due to this circumstances, my sistah postponed (well actually, she nearly cancelled it) a week after. We were very happy that they finally here in Brisbane. And for the rest of the week, we were the hosts and tour guides for them. The bonus is, our two little princesses are here. Came with my sistah and will stay until my completion. So we are back as 'one' again.

My nephews and niece, penat n ngantuk after 8 hours of flying.

Our itinerary of 10 days:

Brisbane view at night at Mount Cootha;

bus rides, citycat rides;

koala and kangaroo visit at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary;

fruit picking, juice tasting, fruit eating and that delicious apple pie at Stanthorpe;

sale! sale! and sale! shopping at DFO, Carrara Market and Harbour Town;

MovieWorld, DreamWorld, Wet and Wild (we only went to the MovieWorld, the rest of the parks my sistah and her family went by themselves)

and last, the Queens St Mall tour.

phewwwwhhh.... 10 days, and that is not enough, there are still other places that we couldn't visit. For 10 days, the ten of us (with my sistah's family of 6), crammed together in our small crib. The kids did enjoyed themselves, and the adults couldn't be better, though with a hole in our pocket, seeing the happy faces, hearing the laughter, what more a parent would asked for. My sistah and her family went home on boxing day (after the boxing day shopping of course). Leaving us to finish what I have came for. And I got 9 months more to the finish line. And that is only my new year wish.

Hope you too, friends had a wonderful holidays. Till I have the time again, take care and salam.
