Nasi Briyani Iza

I tried different style of preparing Nasi Briyani on Sunday. Before this, I just followed the instruction at the back of Faiza' Briyani packet.

(laziness struck me last weekend, so I bought ready to use garlic and ginger paste...pardon my horrible handwriting :p)

For recipe, visit my friend, Iza's blog.

Penawar rindu...

Almost 6 months since we last saw our two little angels. And it has been awhile since I last wrote about our two little angels. Not that I don't have anything to write about them, in fact, I have plenty. I often on the verge of tears whenever I write about them, even speak about them. So I have been avoiding to talk about them. But that was a long time ago, well not that long actually. A couple months back, I have accepted the situation. The most important thing is, they are happy living with their Atok and Wan back home. Listening to them on the phone, talking to yaya on the phone twice a week, keep me going, and help me to stay strong.

However...... watching them growing up is a wish that I know can't be fulfilled at this time of being. Dapat tengok gambar diorang pun jadi laaaa.... So yesterday my SIL sent the latest pictures of our two little angels. I am so happy.... can't explain exactly how I feel. Rasa macam legaaaaa sangat...ahahhahahaha....dapat la lepas rindu kami kat sini.....

yaya

thirah (last jumpe thirah tak bleh jalan lagi..skrang nie ligat, memanjat, melompat)

My sister-in-law with our two little angels. Thank you very much Adik (my SIL's nickname).

Tak sabarnye...lagi sebulan

Movie: Night at the Museum 2

We are the fan of Ben Stiller. My favourite one is There's Something About Mary. Last week was the opening of the Night At The Museum 2 (a friend of my told me the same in Malaysia).

We love the first one. So we surely didn't want to miss this one. We went to the cinema last Saturday, the 9.30 pm show (it was the last show of the day....no midnite show laaa).

It was hilarious, wickedly funny. You guys should watch it. It is much better than the first one. Too many funny scene. However, there is a love story in it, but to me, takde pun tak pe laaa :D.

The most funny scene, when the "thinker" was flirting at a woman statue, and he said, "fire power..." while showing off his biceps...ahahahhaha... ok don't want to excite you guys more...huhu

Telah di'tag' oleh Ms Taj

1. copy award dan letakkan di blog anda

OK walaupun den dah tempek aritu, den tempek lagi sekali yo, bagi memenuhi soalan. (Terimo kasih sekali lagi yo atas pemberian award nie Ms Taj)

2. nyatakan 5 jenis fakta menarik tentang pemberi award ini

Fakta pertama : Nama sebenarnya bukan Mrs Taj :D

Fakta kelima : Beliau pun suke masak gak, must try her rosemary chicken recipe one day.

3. setiap blogger mesti menyatakan 10 fakta atau hobi diri sendiri sebelum memilih penerima award seterusnya

hmmmmm...... 10 pulak tu...adehhhh.....den cubo la yo

Fakta satu : Sedang melanjutkan pelajaran, demi tugas dan negara (chewahh). Nie fakta tara tipu punya :p

Fakta dua : Kuat minum kupi, tiap2 hari mesti pekena kupi. Kupi fav Aik Cheong, dan skrang ada fav baru, Kupi O Old Town White Coffee. Jadi kena pastikan bekalan dipenuhi setiap kali pulang Mesia (atau minta love ones kat mesia pos ke sini).

Fakta empat: Kalau tido, 10 minit pertama tak bleh diganggu, kalau tak, siap la den menyinga. Nie dari kecik smpi skrang. Tapi kalau tido mmg senang (kalau tak bny benda nak pikir la). Memang sesuai la peribahasa, "seperti orang ngantuk disorong bantal", mmg den terus tido dgn nyenyak laa.....dgn syarat jgn la ada gangguan utk 10 minit pertama tu ya....

Fakta lima: Cepat baran bila lapar dan ngantuk. Kadang2 tu bleh siap gigil sebab lambat makan. Lagi la kalau tengah pregnant.... sabar aje la ye.....
Fakta enam: Orang kata, takut nak tegur sebab nampak garang, wakakakaka. Tapi bila dah kenal, orang kata kite nie gila-gila. Pulak dahhh. Student pun cakap macam tu. Boleh nampak muke masing-masing takut aje bila first time buat perjumpaan penasihat akademik. Adehhh...kelakar2. Tapi, tiap-tiap tahun, sama je tanggapan student2 nie kat den...tak tau la balik esok macammana pulak (rindu pulak nak ngajar)

(nie student yng sangat rapat dengan den sebab den pantau dari tahun satu hingga akhir. hari terakhir den bertugas diorang buat kejutan :D)

Fakta tujuh: Seawal umur 9 tahun, dah belajar hidup berdikari, ada kunci rumah sendiri (orang kato latch-key kid), kerana omak abah den bekerja. Sekolah sesi petang, bangun pagi, bfast sendiri, siap2 gi sekolah, kunci pintu rumah dan tunggu bas sekolah....kesian ke?...hehe...ala dulu kan takde nak risau pasal pecah masuk rumah laaa..itu ini...jadi dek tak kisah ....complain pun tak pernah. lagi suke ada laaa sebab bleh bangun lambat wakakaka.

Fakta lapan: Pernah masuk akhbar Berita Harian ruangan tekno huhu.

Fakta sepuluh: pheeewwwwhhhh akhirnyaaaa..... Suka, suka, suka makan, wakakakakaka. Sebab tu den digelar oleh atang, food lover. Den pelik bila orang kata, "tak gheti la makan nie..." sebab den nie jenis yang asalkan halal dan tak mudarat dan bukan luar dari normal, allahumma bariklana....masuk mulut, kunyah2, telan :D. sonang baitu.

4. anda perlu memilih 10 penerima award seterusnya dan describe tentang mereka

You, you and you have an amazing blog. Ambil la yo, kalu buat tag tu, nanti giliran den pulak yang baco.

"kepingin ayam percik buk"

Dah lama nak buat, but didn't have a gut to do it. ahahhaahha.... macam apa daaa... OK...

This recipe is taken from Chef Nor Zailina and Chef Fatihah's "The New Malaysian Cookbook" book. I got it as a wedding present from one of my relative, so technically I have used the book for 7 years....waaahhh.... and have tried half of the recipes in the book. So if you are looking for a recipe book, I recommend you to get this one (hope it is still available).

Ingredients:

1 chicken
1 L coconut milk
2 tbs chilli paste
1 cm dried shrimp paste/belacan
1 tsp fenugreek/halba
2 slices dried assam
1 tsp sugar
salt to taste

Blend all this together:
8 shallots
2 cm ginger
3 cm turmeric
2 cm galangal
2 stalks lemon grass

Method:
1. Score the breast and thighs of the chicken.
2. In a deep pot, boil all the ingredient except the chicken.
3. When the gravy boils, simmer till gravy reduces by half. Remove the assam.
4. Add the chicken. Once almost cook, remove the chicken.
5. Leave the gravy on very low heat.
6. Grill the chicken and baste it with the gravy until golden brown.
7. Serve the chicken with the thickened gravy.

Preparation part one

This week I was busy with making travel arrangement to Hyderabad. I need to wait for the second notification of acceptance before I can book a return air ticket and make a reservation at suggested hotel. Alhamdullillah, 2 papers that I have been working for a month finally get through. The second notification came on Saturday night. I was told about it by my research colleague, Ida. She is going as well. So, last Sunday we booked Malaysian Airlines to Hyderabad. We were lucky cos we managed to get the discounted air fare. The closing promotion date was on the 17th, that Sunday. Talk about rezeki kan.

We have made room reservation as well. We will be there for 6 days, half of the stay will be sponsored by the conference, so we need to pay for the rest of the stay. Conference registration is settled. Only two more things. Visa application (for entering India) and a return ticket back to Malaysia. I will be taking the flight to Hyderabad from KLIA. So I am planning to have a few days break before going off, spending time with my two little princesses and beloved parents.

Futhermore, since I am travelling alone this time (atang is not following sob.. sob..) I need to make sure my hands are clear to handle the luggage and documents. So carrying a laptop bag, a handbag and a suitcase would be a messy thing (ya, selalu I will only carry the handbag :D), so I bought myself a laptop backpack, senang, humban everything inside the bag. I can put my empty handbag inside the suitcase then. So I spent the entire Saturday looking for the best bargain on the internet. And I found this website which offers a reasonable price with a variety of selection RushFaster. Together with the backpack, I placed an order for Thirah's diaper bag. Dah alang-alang nak dipos kan. They received my order on Monday (dah Sabtu kan ari cuti). I received an email from them, informing about the dispatch yesterday, and today, the package arrived at my doorstep. Memang cepat, dan memudahkan, because I don't know where I can find a store that sells laptop bags in Brisbane.

What more, they have this 90 days return policy. Tapi tak pulang laaa, mmg puas hati :D.

Krispy Kreme: Is it Halal?

Recently, there was a comment left by a new friend regarding my Krispy Kreme entry. Foremost, thanks Pink Shiba for visiting my blog. She was asking about the Halal status of Krispy Kreme, and I quote her comment:

"Pink Shiba_Sakura, IIDA Smiles said...
Menarik...just chatting ngan my ex classmate/schoolmate now kat Saudi Arabia, she mention the Arab Saudi Krispy Creme tak halal...sebab semua ingredients adalah sama, contains lard especially untuk glazing....Waalahualam...coz kat Malaysia pun ader dah Krispy Creme ni....camner ni mintak2 bantuan kawan2..... "

Your question attracted my attention, and I did further research about it. From Krispy Kreme's website, they have information about the Halal status of their donut. They do have Halal certificate for all their donuts. And Halal certification is control by a trusted body in Australia (use google to search more information about this). This link will direct you to the exact information about Halal status of Krispy Kreme in Australia.

Below, I insert the email that my friend received from the Krispy Kreme when he asked them about the ingredients that they used in the donut.

----------------

Thank you for your enquiry!Krispy Kreme doughnuts do not contain alcohol products manufactured tobe consumed as a beverage such as liquors, wine and beer. The glaze on Krispy Kreme Original Gazed Doughnuts contain a speciallyproduced flavouring that is made and approved for use according to strict FDA guidelines. This flavouring contains a small amount of ethyl alcohol, a common ingredient that is also naturally present in just about all fresh fruits and vegetables. The flavouring for Krispy Kreme's glaze contains less than 2 percent ethyl alcohol, an essential ingredient for much flavouring commonly used in commercial food production. It is important to note, however, that when the flavour is mixed intothe glazed recipe, it becomes less than 1 percent composition and therefore, the ethyl alcohol content drops to less than 0.02 percent. During the cooking of the glazed, virtually all - if not all- of the ethyl alcohol is lost through evaporation.

The only animal by products used in our doughnuts are eggs (whites and yolks) and dairy products (including milk, butter, yoghurt, whey, nonfat milk and non fat whey). All other ingredients are made from non animal by products.

With regards to our Ice Kreme, we don't knowingly use animal derived emulsifiers and gelatin. We would advise that you consult our nutrition section on our web site at http://www.krispykreme.com.au/ for further information regarding the ingredients used in our Ice Kreme. We do not make our Ice Kreme on site, it is supplied to us by an external source. The same can be said of all our products as we do list all ingredients used in both our doughnuts and Ice Kreme in the nutritional section of our web site.

In addition to this, there is a full listing of all our doughnut ingredients on the bottom of our dozens boxes which any of our team members would be more than happy to show you if you just pop into your local store. At this stage we don't have Kosher certification on either our Ice Kremeor doughnuts and this is something we are currently working on. We do however have Halal certification on our doughnuts.

(I withhold the sender's name)

---------------------------

Waallahulam

As for Krispy Kreme in Malaysia, maybe you can check at Halal Malaysia's website. Ask them about the Halal status of the donut. My experience is, never takes thing for granted. Bila dah duduk sini, I found that we should constantly check and ask about the ingredients used in the product. Some ingredients, for example emulsifier is derived from animal. Boleh google kalau nak tau maklumat lanjut.

Hope this enlight the confusion. Happy to help wherever possible. Thanks for reading.

my donut to be

At most, 2 recipes will be published in this blog. Sorry for making you drooling over the pictures heheheh...harap takde la sampai terkecur air liur ke, especially kalau yang berbadan dua tu, ampunnnn.... kalau teringin sangat, kena la buat atau carik sendiri. Eden nak kasi, tak dapek doh, jauh bona (tapi yang dokek2 sini, meh la datang umah yo).

But not all my experiment cum cooking end with success. I had a few failure stories too...heheheh (dah mesti la tulis pasal yang sodap dan berjaya kan). I found I am not good in this kneading, rolling and shaping-using-the-hand-thingy. Have to throw away my so-called kuih keria, because it was too hard to eat. And atang had a good laugh at me...poor me. 4 sweet potatos gone to waste. My first karipap was also a failed subject. The second attempt ok laaa... tapi nak kasi orang malu :p. And the latest one.....DONUT .... as if telling me to DO NOT try me...wakakaka... Tried very best to shape it into a ring, tapi lembik ke atau banyak udara masuk ke.... In the end I made them into balls, like that Dunkin Donut's munchkin tu (ada lagi ke?). Tapi mmg sedap. Couldn't stop eating them. Buat bulat-bulat pun ok ape. Tadaaaa...

I combined two recipes, one from MamaFami and another from Noreen (tu la pandai sangat, kan lain jadinya). Here are the recipes:

From MamaFami (copy and paste aje):

500g cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
1 cup water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (50g) margarine
4 teaspoons sugar
1 egg

Method :
1. Mix well flour, instant yeast and egg.
2. In a small pot, on low heat, melt margarine.
3. Add salt, sugar to melted margarine and finally water. Let liquid be slightly hot.
4. Pour liquid into flour mixture bit by bit and knead till the dough is smooth or developed. For best result, knead using the machine.
5. Allow dough to rise (prove) until it has doubled it's original size.
6. Using a rolling pin, roll dough out to about 1 cm thick. Cut with the doughnut cutter.
7. Leave it to rise again.
8. Fry
9. Coat with sugar or dip in melted cooking chocolate and sprinkle some hundreds n thousands on top.
10. Enjoy!!!!

From Kak Noreen (copy and paste jugak) to make 8 donuts:

200g tepung roti
20g gula
1/2 sudu kecil garam
1 sudu kecil dry yeast
140ml susu segar
20g butter
minyak masak untuk menggoreng
sugar powder

cara:
11. Kalau lekat kesan jari, bermakna dah naik.
12. Canaikan dan tekapkan dengan acuan donut. Rehatkan selama 5-6 minit.
13. Penaikkan lagi sehingga 1.5 kali ganda.
14. Goreng dengan api sederhana sehingga nampak perang. Sekali-sekala perlu dibalik-balikkan supaya betul-betul masak

And my improvised recipe....huhu:

500g cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
280ml susu segar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (50g) margarine
4 teaspoons sugar

So the changed that I made is, I used no egg unlike MamaFami's because was following Kak Noreen's. I double the amount from Kak Noreen's recipe, and used margerine instead of butter (following MamaFami's). OK...do not want to confuse you further (kang ado yang ngamuk kat den kang). As a conclusions, memang sedap :D. But the moral of the story is, kadang-kadang ada gak yang tak jadi laaa. There you go Ms Taj, tu motivasi tu utk memasak...huhuh...

Last Sunday I tried again, and this time I made......
'Burger Malaysia' and I finally managed to shape it into a ring shape....hehehe :D

Cuba laaa....sedappp

Sorry for taking a long time to upload the pictures from that Train and Hot Rod show. But I managed to have the uploading task done last Saturday. So, have fun flipping through the album in our fotopages ya.

And.... I received an award from Ms Taj. Thanks sis. The award came with a task, tapi den tempek award dulu la ye (aci tak? huhu). Will find a time to answer all the questions.

Thank you for reading my story Ms Taj. It is nice knowing you. Jangan lupa cuba resepi ayam tu ek :D.

I bow and say "Thank You"

Remember that "misteri blog ini" entry? I did requested some of you to do the tag (for those who have not done it ye...and for those yang belum tu...ehem ehem huhu). Anyway it has been awhile since I last visited my friend's Jas blog. So when I was reading her blog today, I came across the homework I left her, and answering question no. 5, she wrote....

----------------

It covers a variety of topics. Maturity is evident from her writing. Unlike my blog that is. I especially like the entries where she covers cake recipes. How I wish she's near so that I can taste a bit hehehe

-------------

What captured my attention is the word maturity...well (ku terasa macam tua sangat la jas) I hope she is referring to the content ya, but not like orang tua membebel wakakakakkaka...because I do membebel in here from time to time. Anyway was flattered at the same time.

Actually the pleasure is mine. Writing is a passion, and I thank all of you for visiting and reading my rambling ya. Terima kasih banyak-banyak. I gained a lot of new friends from blogging. Hope the friendships do not end here, and hope to see you, my friends in the real-world.

And about the cooking bit....hehehe... like I said, I cook to soothe myself :D. Plus we don't have anything to do/go in the weekend, and the kitchen is equipped with an oven. So with all these reasons I work myself in the kitchen, to put my mind away kejap :D. Don't know if I will be the same back home (no oven kat rumah laa). Tapi kalau dapat share makan-makan memang seronok kan.

Wokeh, I was fasting yesterday, and for iftar I prepared blackpepper beef, a recipe given by my friend Gee. Thanks Gee for the recipe, something new, and delicious, mmg rasa kuah steak laaa, daging pun takde rasa macam kering tau.

So, have a great weekend ya. Am sure need to work on weekend, but am looking forward for the premier of Harper's Island on Sunday. Terngiang-ngiang suara budak perempuan tu, "one by one...." hehehe. But I read the review, it is beyond expectation, hope I have different opinion.

2. Arrange the breads in a baking tray then pour the fresh milk on top of the bread. Put aside for 15 minutes.

Award lagi...hehehe

Thanks Neeza.
Dan saya dengan rasminya memberitahu, saya salah sorang pengikut nya (ye, itupun saya nak gi tau gak :p)

|From My Mobile Blog| Serabut...serabai...

Serabuttttt betul skrang.... Banyak benda nak complete before going to Hyderabad. Dan banyak juga benda nak diuruskan, tiket, lodging, visa..... kepala pun dah berserabut :p

This is my home office. Yup, dulu I had one big table kan. When we moved into this new apartment, atang advised me to use a smaller table because the old one is too bulky to put in the living room (well, the living room is smaller than the old apartment living room) and, since I will spend most of my working hours in the office, so I decided to move the old table into the garage, and use this folding table instead. Tapi......tengok apa dah jadi sekarang...

Sometimes I need to work at home, especially when I need to do serious reading, and writing. When I need to focus, I prefer a more secluded place (and quiet). Kalau ruang besar2 nie, kang mata pun luas la memandang, lepas tu berangan. Lepas tu bila orang lalu lalang, telinga pun mendengar, dan mata pun sibuk la nak melihat....wakakakakkaka..... So I am more like a horse in a race. Perlu ditutup sikit matanya supaya ia fokus ke depan sahaja. Ok dah start melalut.

So what is on my table for these couple of days (and going and going....). The papers you see in the picture are my survey responses, that need to be key-in, translate, review the translation, and analyse. Everything need (bukan have lagi dah) to be completed by the end of this month (2 minggu lagi adehhh). The books need to be read before the conference. My office table is getting out of space nowadays. Can't even find a place to comfortably put my elbow, it has to be on top of either some papers, or books. And yet they say research students have more space at the workstation. Duhhhhhh

And why I am working from home today, I have 2 strong reasons. 1) Need to get all the survey responses in MSWord, by today. 2) The IT people still have not solve the problem that I am facing with a software (dah 3 minggu nie, tulun la buat sesuatu, tak lame lagi nak start data analysis). Jadi kang kalau diorang nak troubleshoot, tak bleh guna machine. So baik ku melarikan diri dari workstation tu.

Sorry friends, this is more like a rambling than informing ya...wakakakakakkaka... (kes kelapa kepala serabut dah nie)

6 more weeks to go until Terbang ke Langit Biru lagi (maybe singgah Mesia jap, jenguk anak2, guling2 ngan anak2, peluk kuat2 anak2.....rindu bangattttt)

Chicken like "Deli wing"

Remember my latest collection of recipe books. I have tried one chicken recipe taken from the "Quick and Short Chicken Recipes". It tasted like pizza hut's deli wing.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup soy sauce
3 tbs of honey
2 cloves of garlic
1/4 cup of sweet chilli sauce
1/3 cup of lemon juice - I used 3 tbs
1/2 cup of mint (chopped) - I omitted this one
16 pieces of chicken wings
(I prepared 8 pieces of wings, therefore I reduced all the amount to half)

Method:
1. Preheat oven to 200deg C.
2. Mix together all the ingredients (except the wings).
3. Arrange the wings in a baking tray and pour the mixture. Cover the tray with cling wrap and put it in the fridge for 20 minutes (but if you could leave it longer, more than an hour or overnight in the fridge, will give a better result).
4. Remove from fridge, and cover the baking tray with foil. Bake the wings for 30 minutes.
5. Then remove the foil, turn the chicken and bake for another 20 minutes (I actually left it 30 minutes more, turning the wings twice until they turned golden brown like the picture below).

I served the chicken wings with corns and some mix salad.

Sodappp...:p

Alamak, miss satu langkah laaa....lupe nak cakap tulis, bawang putih itu disangat di atas ayam, kemudian digaul mesra ya....Sorry sangat2

Issshhhh...Isshhhh...Isssshhhh

This is what will happen if you are ironing your clothes while watching TV.

And as a result, I have lost not just the hijab, but killed the iron as well.
But did I learn from the incident....nahhhhh.... (boring maa gosok baju camtu jek, tak tengok TV)

This week entries will be more about cooking. Nothing interesting happened on weekend, we just went shopping for a new iron. Happy reading though.

One banana...two banana... and with 4 bananas I made a Bread Banana

Yaya sang me this song when I called her up last weekend.

"One, banana...two, banana...three, banana..." :D

Another baking project. Atang is getting tired of banana cake, so I need to try different recipe. Again from kak noreen's homecooking.

Ingredients:

2 eggs
80ml buttermilk
120 vegetable/canola oil
225gm banana, mash them (I used 4 ripe bananas)
300gm sugar
220gm plain flour
5gm sodium bicarbonate (1 teaspoon)
3gm salt (a pinch of salt)
60gm chopped pecan/almond/walnut - optional (I add raisins and cinnamon powder)

Method:
1. Shift the flour, together with sodium bi, and salt.
2. Whisk eggs, buttermilk, oil, banana and sugar (or pop everything inside the food processor).
3. Add flour into the banana mixture.
4. Optionally you can add nuts or raisins. And, I add some cinnamon powder.
5. Mix well, and pour the mixture in a greased loaf pan.
6. Bake for 1 hour and 20 minutes at 165 degC or until skewer inserted came out clean.

Sooo Hot @ "Hot Rod" show

At close proximity to the Brisbane model train show, there was another exhibition, Hot Rod car show. Layan gambar aje laa.. was lost in words. This time I concur with the saying, a picture speaks a thousand words. Well, I have hundreds of pictures from both show. Enough say....

Giler tengok keta-keta vintage modified camnie. I was searching for my late atok's car, but couldn't find any Austin.

Chopper pun ada (terus teringat citer ghost rider) hahahhaha...

My camera's battery cong out in the middle of the show. Fortunately I have my reliable Sony Ericsson.

Conclusion: Two amazing shows, two exhausted people (parking jauh maa...kunun nak elak bayar parking, but in the end, we walked about 4 km that day..ahahahhaha....tu blum campur penat ambil gambar lagi). But it was definately awesome, nothing to loose :D

[More pictures to come in our fotopages]

Latest collection

Like the famous saying.... cooking is the best therapy. Well maybe not for some. But it is definately true for me. So to get my mind away from all the tense and messy things about research, I dedicate some time in the kitchen. And I have invested not just time but money on things that related to cooking, including these books.

The Italian, Chocolate and Chicken recipe books just cost me AD12 in total. The cupcakes book is the latest edition. I found the recipe for the buttercream that I used to cover up the mess on my blueberry cheesecake from this book.

And these are catalogues that I received everyweek in the mail :D. They called it Junk Mail...Junk or not, bleh rehat2 kan mata nie...and being tempted at the same...huhu

Brisbane Model Trains show

Model train was atang's dream hobby. When I saw the advertisement about "Brisbane model train" exhibition on TV, I made a note to find out more about the exhibition. The exhibition was held during the Labour day weekend (last weekend), 2nd to 4th May 2009.

There were so many models on display. It was so fascinating, from locomotive to electric train to Thomas (that train character) with detailed and delicate figurines.
