A wonderful gift from a wonderful friend

I received a parcel sent via courrier from a wonderful friend in Kota Bharu. Thank you…thank you…. I am speechless when I saw the hijab. I knew I was getting a hijab from her. She has mentioned it to me. She said this gift as a motivation for me to work harder. What surprised me most is the embroidery on the hijab. She has sewn that herself. A delicate work, done by a mother of 2 boys, working full time, performing a demanding job everyday. But her thought of sewed (is this the correct word to use?) and finishing it before raya, has put me almost to tears.

Thank you so much Gee for a wonderful gift. It was so sweet of you. Thanks again for hearing my trouble and consoling me. May Allah bless you and your family always.

Thank You for all birthday wishes

Yaya would like to say Thank You for all birthday wishes she received from you guys. Last Sunday, we celebrated her birthday at Kenny Rogers Alamanda.

She was having a bad cough, so she was not enjoying her fav spaghetti Bolognese. No birthday cake this time. That has to wait after raya, celebrating her birthday with her cousins.

For her present, we decided to give her PS2 instead of Nintendo DS. Our reason is simple, we could control her time and she can play with anyone else. We just bought the play station on Friday, 5 days after her birthday. Surprisingly she didn’t asked for anything this year, not even asking us about her present. She was overwhelmed when we bought her the PS. I think she was soo distracted by her old toys at VSP…hehehehe….

Adik couldnt be happier for her sister. "nanti den bleh challenge kak long..." hehehhe

Sharing and caring

At VSP, yaya took out her old toys and shared them with thirah. “Thirah…nie kak long punye kereta”. “Nie kak long punye cookery....” Yaya misses her toys so much. We let her unpacked all her toys, but reminded her to not leave small object on the floor for it is dangerous for thirah.

She shared her keyboard, given by her mak long for one of her birthday, with thirah. Singing and making sound. Thirah was just knocking on the keyboards and would laugh whenever her kak long was making strange noises using the mic provided with the keyboard.

Another time she would take thirah for a ride on her small car. Such an enjoyable moment for both of them. And I am so happy watching them play together.

Dia yang ku rindui

While in Brisbane, we missed her dearly. Often I would ask mak about her, whenever I rang home. She has been with the family for 7 years now. She is a good companion; never cause any problem, except for her over protective behaviour.

Last week, when we just arrived from Brisbane, after hugging her grandma, yaya asked, “Wan, mana Lara?”. “Ada kat belakang tu…”.Upon hearing the reply, yaya went straight to the back of the house, searching for her friend. “Lara…lara…”. “Lara….jommm makan..”. But she received no answer. “Wan…tak de pun!”. “Nanti keluar la tu…”. True enough, a few minutes later she came out from nowhere, and greeted us.

Yaya was so delighted, quickly patted her head, and throw a scoop of cat biscuits into Lara’s dish. While Lara was enjoying her food, yaya stroke her hair. Atok has just given Lara a bath several days before we came home. So her hair looked fluffy and shining.

I am not sure how old Lara is, but I think she is close to 9 years old. Since we left for Brisbane, mak keep reminding Lara, "ko jangan sakit dulu...tunggu tuan ko balik ok...". Boleh camtu..kelakar mak nie...hehheheh
We didn’t raise her from small. She came to us one fine day. I assumed she was lost. So I waited for the owner to come and collect her. Days became weeks, weeks became months. Apparently we heard from our neighbour that Lara was at her house before she moved in with us. And the neighbour was not her owner as well. At that time I only had one cat, we named him Tupai. Maybe Lara felt comfortable living with us and that is why she stays with us until today. Ooohhh… I named her Lara because when she came to this house, Lara Croft was showing at the cinema.

And that is a story about the cat that we missed so much.

Biskut raya itu...sungguh sedap

I have drafted this entry on Wednesday, 24th Sept. Kira entry basi la nie...tapi kena publish..sebab....

-------------------------
Right now, I am at my office, creating this entry. I have no internet connection at VSP. Lain rasanya bila tak duduk depan komputer yang ada internet connection. Kalau kat Brisbane tu, almost 24/7 online. hahahahhah... But I need to stay at VSP for a while. Have many things to be done, before heading back to Seremban.

Yesterday, I called up Liza Norm. I have ordered some biskut raya and kerepek from her. Last night Liza came to VSP to deliver the kuih raya. Dah lama tak jumpe Liza, last I saw her at jasin, '93. But, she still looks the same. Liza need to rush to the pasar malam, so we just had a brief chat. Met with her cuties. Liza, anak-anak u well behave ye.... cakap sekali aje...bagus-bagus...hehehehhe... mesti omak garang kat umah..gegegege...

Back to the biskut raya story. After Liza, we went up to our apartment, and after putting down Athirah, ku dengan tak sabarnye, telah membuka pelekat-pelekat di tutup botol biskut raya itu.... Oh yes. I ordered Fancy Ice-cream and Sarang Semut.... memang sedap.... betul-betul sedap... kalau ikut napsu..mau abis 1/4 daripada balang kuih itu.... Sib baik Athirah bising nak tido...Kalau tak.....hmmmmmmm....

Yummy, wanna try? Too late..hahaha.... Maybe you guys could order for next raya. Liza kata sume sedap. So Liza, next raya post ke Australia boleh??? hehhehehe

Food marathon

During our stay at VSP, I didnt cook. Nothing to cook, plus we are only here for awhile, so I think it is not necessary to buy food stuff except for some rice, vege and chicken meat to cook athirah's porridge. So for iftar and sahur, we just went to the PaRam at BSP and also breaking fast at food outlet.

So lepas la gian kami kat KFC, McD, MFM and Kenny G. hehheheh... cukup la kot sehingga raya nie.... :P

Balik kampung : Episode 10 : the journey

that morning I got up at 2 am. Just had 2 hours of sleep before that. Took my bath, dress up, woke up atang and yaya. With just a single shoke, yaya woke up. The excitement of going back to Malaysia was immediately shown on her face. It is not easy to wake up yaya. Sib baik she made no hassle that morning. Then thirah woke up because of the commotion.

After sahur, it was time for final checkup. Luggages were line up near the door. Later, perform subuh, than atang took down all the luggages to Lan's garage. Lan has offered to sent us to the airport. We left the house at little past 5 am. Spring is here in Brisbane, so it was not that dark outside.

At 20 past 6, we arrived at Coolangatta airport. Check-in, and we board the flight at around 8 am. The flight departed as schedule 8.40am Brisbane time.

This was our first time travelling with AirAsia. And I am glad that we travelled with AirAsia. Cost wise we are comfortable with it. Cuma travel ngan baby was a bit challenging and tiring.

Unlike MAS, where they have limited menu, AirAsia offered a variety of food. Since yaya tak puasa (she always claimed that she is), I ordered her chicken gourmet sandwich...which according to her..."sedap la mak".... cuma yang kelakarnye.... order food..lepas tu kena bayar...gegegeggege.....order air...bayar....

Athirah was restless. Yela orang dah merangkak and memanjat....kena constraint mengamuk sahaja laaa... so atang and me have to take turn of dukung thirah. She only had a bit of sleeping. Penat betul....

We landed 5 minutes early, @ 3.05pm Malaysia time. It took 8 hours and a half to get to Malaysia. Rasa kaki dah lembik dah.....Abah came to pick us up. Once yaya saw her atok, she immediately scream and ran to atok. What a happy moment.

Special dedication to my brother : Happy Birthday

38 years ago mak gave birth to her only son. According to mak, my brother couldn't wait to see the world, so mak nearly delivered him in the car. hahahhah

Happy Birthday dear bro. Semoga dipanjangkan umur dan dimurahkan rezeki.

The age gap between my bro and me is 6 years. During our childhood, I spent a lot of time with him. Most of the time we would fight and wrestled. We were like cats and dogs at one time, and a best of friend another time. He was rough. A bully..heheheh... but I was also tough, always fought back. This may have attributed to my boy-ishness.

He has many times took charge of looking after me when mak and abah on overseas trip. Once we asked mak permission to take a bus, to go back to our kampung at Jelebu, just for fun. Just the two of us. I was 8 or 9 years old at that time. We took a bus from Seremban to Kuala Klawang than another bus to our kampung, Kg. Kampai. It was a fun ride.

He is so smart, but unfortunately he is not a good teacher....hahahha...this is true. He could solve a very complex maths problem just a few minutes, but he is not good at showing you how. Because he solve the problem in his head. His favourite toy is rubic cube, any type of it.

He has influence me a lot in the choice of music, but not similar. He was once a follower of this hardcore metal genre. "entah apa bijik butir yang disebutnya". Abah always refer that as "lagu setan"gegegeggegeg....

So to my dearest bro, we wish you Happy Birthday. Semoga makin bertambah rezeki dan diberi kesihatan.

Flat-out

Sorry you guys, I have been busy settling down. Guess what, I have bought a prepaid starter pack, have completed all the instruction for registration, and have successfully sent a couple of messages out. It turned out later, I couldn't make any phone call neither text messaging. I thought I was out of credit (duhh...which I thought peculiar hence I just used it a couple of time).

After checking up all the settings, I got so frustrated, asked atang to call up service centre. Oh yes, after every attempt of using the line, I will received an sms saying that my # has expired. What!!!!... So atang call up the service centre. Apparently, the # indeed has expired. I was shocked.... unbelievable... boleh jadi camtu ka?? # pun ada expiry date....

Anyway...malas nak babbling about this (I have did that the whole yesterday afternoon, atang tahan telinga aje la dengar)..... Have no choice but to get a new starter pack. Bile la service kat sini nak tip top ye??? Hmmmm.......

Today another busy day. Am going up to VSP to kemas-kemas sikit rumah (I doubt it is a mess, since my loving mak and abah went up every 2 months to clean up the house). InsyaAllah will reside at VSP starting this Saturday (Liza, nanti ku calling2 ya). Have an appointment at AG later in the afternoon. Than back to Seremban.

Have some interesting story to share. Will update soon. InsyaAllah.

p/s: Athirah asyik clinging on me. Mungkin sebab tempat baru and panas sikit....adeh....

Going to slumber now.

Brisbane - Coolangatta - Sepang - Seremban

We have probably left the Coolangatta airport by the time this entry is published. Can't wait to be home with the family. However, can't help but feeling exhausted when thinking of works that have to be done in Malaysia, worrying whether all can be completed on time.
Doakan perjalanan kami selamat. See you soon.

Balik kampung : Episode 9 : the Luggages

We have done packing. Three luggages that are full with clothes. 2 luggages are reserved for yaya and athirah. Atang and me are travelling light.

thirah wants to put herself inside the luggage....hahahhha.... she is into 'memanjat' nowadays. Semua nak dipanjatnya.

Yaya is busy organising her books, which I told her that those need to go later because we dont have anymore room in the luggage.

and that includes you thirah. You definately wont fit in any of those luggages now.

My dear brother requested some item. So off we went to DFO on Friday to get some stuff.

Balik kampung : Episode 6 : Yaya last week @ Ironside State school

Last week was Yaya final week at Ironside State School. I brought along the dedicated S200 and took some pictures. That morning I spent some time with her at school. Accompanying her, saying goodbye to all her friends. By the look on her face, I know she was feeling sad. However, she cover it up by laughing and cheering, as usual. Here are some pictures of her with her friends.

Special dedication : HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BELOVED SISTAH

Today is my beloved, darling sister birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR SISTAH. We wish you all the happiness, prosperity, longivity and Allah blessing.

My sister aka Along is celebrating her....mmmm....shouldnt reveal it....sensitive to her...haahha...ok she is 9 years older than me.... you guys have to figure that out ya. She is the only sister I have, and the most understandable, loving, caring, cool sister, and I am a lucky person to have her as a sister. We have never fight, I can't recall any disagreement we had, maybe a slight disagreement, maybe because I am a good sister (except for one incident that I read your diary...ggegege..ampun). Honestly, though we seldom share common interest (I have mentioned before that she is into make-up which I am not...hahhaha), but that didn't prevent us to share loads of other things.

Growing up I always look up to her (yes this is true, I know you dont know about this sistah). With respect she has set a very good example to me. Though during our adolescent years we were apart most of the time (she went to boarding school since she was 13, then A-Level, later to London), but when we were together we surely spend time together. Well almost all the time laa... because sometimes she needs to be with her friends, and I have some friends too...hehehehhe... but we are surely close. Until today.

In the family there is only me, Along and Abang. Abah always remind us to stay close with each other, because we are just it. Abah said,"anak abah 3 orang aje....". So whatever happen, put/think of your family first. So Along being the eldest has to make sure that her adik-adik are all well, in everything. Susah jadi anak sulung nie.... But nobody can do that except her.

So today is her special day. Special day needs special attention. So here is a special entry, and special dedication to my only sistah. The greatest sister in the whole world.

Along... Happy birthday.... we hope today is the most memorable day in your life. We always dua that you are under Allah blessing, all the time, and always under His protection.

Happy birthday dear sistah. Thanks for all your kindness and support (being it financially and spiritually). We love you, forever and ever.

With hugs and kisses.

Balik kampung : Episode 5 : Athirah and Nanny Ani

This week, we sent thirah to Ani 3 days in a row. We would like to give thirah extra time to spend with her nanny. This week is the last week thirah will be spending her time with ani and family. Next week, insyaAllah we will depart to Malaysia, back to our home town, to celebrate hari raya with our family and relatives. By the time we come back to Brisbane, Ani and family may have return to their home town at Lombok, Bali, Indonesia.

We are so grateful that Ani willing to look after Athirah when I need to go to the office. It is so difficult to find a babysitter that is affordable. Proffesional babysitter would charge you AD18 per hour, and a nursery would charge you AD55 for a day. Alhamdullillah, Allah has met us with Ani and family.

Ani treats Athirah like her daughter. She has 2 boys, Thoriq and Faiz. Thoriq is in the same class with Yaya at Ironside school. So we have also made arrangement with Ani husband to take turn sending and fetching Yaya and Thoriq. So we have become close to Ani and family.

Eventhough Ani is not well for the past few weeks, due to her pregnancy, she still willing to take in thirah. Last 2 weeks Ani was unwell, so she couldnt take care of thirah. Then on last Thursday, she sent me an sms, asking whether we are sending thirah on Friday. She said she has getting better, and can look after thirah. Her message to thirah, "Tante kagen sama tirah". But since thirah was not well last week, I have to apologise to Ani, but promise her we will send thirah to her this week.

Hope these few days, Ani dapat puas bersama thirah. And we are so thankful to her. I hope she is having a baby girl because she has been longing for girl for a long time.

Breaking fast with friends

The first iftaar organised by PPMQ was held at UQ Musollah last Sunday. Similar to last year, the event started early in the morning, to prepare the food. All the cooking was done by the men, due to the fact that men are more expert with this kawah style of cooking (I need reference for this...anyone..heheh). The women will prepare the ingredients (onions, chili, spices, etc.) and at the same time catching up with your friends, gossiping, consoling, sharing, laughing and meeting new friends. It is the time that we escape from the pressure of studying and researching. It is actually kind of 'pantang' to ask about research. And if you still want to ask, you will definately get one of this answers, "OK laa", "OK", "jangan tanya", "hmmmm..."....

Ok back to the iftaar event.

The location for gotong-royong was at Kak Pizah and Abang Zul house, just opposite the musollah. But this year, I couldn't attend the gotong royong (johorean call it rewang, nogori call it bermantai). My 'dear friend' came to visit me again. I have a frequent visit from her lately. I hate it whenever she comes. So irritating. So restless. She is actually a disease. My dear Ms Coughing. So in order to not spreading the germs, I skipped the gotong royong. Plus with thirah is getting lasak nowadays, I still couldn't involve with the activity right. So better stay at home. But I asked atang to go and help. At least ada wakil from us. Anyway I missed that gotong royong dearly.

Near to breaking fast time, all of us went to Musollah. Those with small kids breaking fast at kak pizah house. We had nasi minyak, ayam merah, kari kambing, acar, some kuih, air bandung, air teh and dadih.....yummy.... sorry I couldnt take pictures. Athirah tak bleh duduk diam. I need to hold her most of the time. She will immediately grap whatever near her whenever she has the opportunity. Tu yang dia sibuk capai cawan laa..pinggan laaa... lauk laaa.... adeh

Anyway...best bukak puasa reramai .... Next Sunday will be another iftaar event. But I will probably not go this time.

Bazar Ramadhan @ Brisbane : the visit

6th of Ramadhan. As usual, Saturday is our outing day (teringat zaman kat jasin, malam jumaat dah pikir nak outing mane. Liza ko pun same kan....hahahah). So we went to Coles for groceries. At around 2 pm, we went to West End to visit Asma and Rahmat. Asma has delivered a baby boy on the morning of the 31st August. Anak merdeka-post-merdeka...heheheheh.... We were there just a short while, bulan puasa bukan bleh minum teh pun...heheheheh... then we rush back to St Lucia, heading Guyatt Park...for...jeng jeng jeng....

(tengok orang ramai kerumun gazebo tu.....)

The Bazar Ramadhan ...hehehehheh. We were expecting a large number of stalls. However it turned out, there were only 8 to 9 stalls there.

We have already ordered 2 pack of Laksa Penang from Naim, so we just went there to pick them up...plus that 'kuih ijau'....plus Laksam.... we end up buying popia basah and 2 packs of Nasi Ayam...

Looking around I saw others were selling soto, laksa johor, nasi tomato, murtabak, nasi ambang, nasi lemak, agar-agar, popia basah, donut, keria and kuay teow goreng. The famous nasi kerabu kak Ha was already gone went we arrived.

The price range AD 4 to AD 5 for heavy dishes (nasi and noodle). Kuih about AD 0.50 to AD 1 per piece. Macam harga kat Malaysia aje.... cume dalam Aus dollar....

We already ordered Nasi Lemak for next week....gegegegeggege.....baik punye plan...

one false alarm

Athirah was not well last week. She got a high fever, the highest temperature we recorded was 39.6 deg C. I put wet cloth on her forehead to reduce the temperature. She was so cranky, I need to cuddle her almost all the time. Not that I am complaining about it, it is just that she was usually likes to play by herself and only need the cuddle when she wants to go to sleep.

Early last Friday morning, she was quite restless, I couldn't put her down for even a second. Just when I was cuddling her, I noticed red spots on her forehead and her nose. I immediately thought Athirah was catching measles. Then I looked down her neck and behind her ears. The spots were everywhere, even on her body. I didn't notice them when I bathe her. Panicking and worried, I asked atang to take us to the hospital.

We arrived at the Royal Children Hospital nearly 9am. We went straight to the emergency unit, because that is the only place that any walk-in patient should go. After filling out forms, short interview, yadayada, we waited for our turn. During this time, Athirah was active. I think she was happy to be out of the house. She bounced, laughed, making loud sound, as if she was not sick at all. Anyway her temperature was normal that morning.

We were then called by the nurse to the examining room. After a thorough check-up, the nurse said the spots were only rashes, due to a viral infection that had triggered the fever. But we were asked to wait for a doctor to confirm. About 15 minutes later, a doctor came and did another check-up, and confirm that the break out was due to her high fever. She reassured us that Athirah will not likely to get measles as she has completed her first phase of the immunisation. But the doctor still needed a second opinion, so she asked another doctor, a senior pediatrician to reconfirm. And again the senior doctor said athirah just had a viral infection. She said no medication can treat that, only gave her panadol if she feels uncomfortable and her temperature increases.

So we went home feeling relief. One false alarm it turned out to be. Alhamdullillah.

This picture was taken on Friday evening. See that red spots around her nose. Alhamdullillah those are just rashes. Gradually those spot faded and today she only has some left on her arms and legs.
