My eldest princess is now 8

Yaya turned 8 yesterday. We had a small family celebration, started on the eve of her birthday by going to the cinema to watch "Despicable Me". It was one great movie, even adik was laughing loudly in the cinema (dah la suara dia memang besar...hahahahah). Yesterday, I baked yaya a choc cake (I just bought Coles' choc cake premix), and cooked her favourite chicken rice for dinner.  I just realised I baked her the same choc cake when we had her 1st bday celebration in Brisbane, that was for celebrating her turning 5, 3 years ago. Same cake, same plate, but yaya looked a lot of different in that two years.Ohhh she has lost that baby look, dah besar dah dia....I am practically holding my breath when I wrote this sentence..........................................
and now exhaling....

Her 1st and last birthday in Brissy
And yesterday, as I have wrote on Sunday, we had a visit from the rental agent with some potential tenants that will take over our rented unit in November. And this morning, I received a call from the agent informing me that there will be another visit tomorrow evening. Alhamdullillah, Allah mudahkan cari replacement. InsyaAllah.

Ok I need to post some pictures for the love ones at home to see yaya bday celebration in FB. Daaa...

Ramadhan Day 22: the 1st essay

Today is the 22nd day of Ramadhan. One more week before celebrating the Eid @ Hari Raya. At this stage, I still cultivating my raya mood, because I am still refining my chapters.  I have dateline this Tuesday, maybe after that I can switch to raya mood. But I have two things to look forward to this week. Tomorrow atang wants to have iftar at a nearby mosque. Everyday, there will be someone or a group of people donate some food for iftar at any mosque, musollah (surau) around Brisbane, as far as I am aware of. Before the Ramadhan, the mosque or musollah committee will make announcement about the donation, individual who wishes to donate can contact the committee directly to book a date. Besides the one organised by the Malaysian Student Association (PPMQ), I have never attended any iftar event held at any mosque or musollah. So I did suggested to atang, maybe we could have iftar at any mosque or musollah on weekends, I just want to experience what it's like, plus tasting different type of food prepared by people from different culture (escape masak pun ye gak, huhu). Bila lagi kan, the only opportunity that I may have. It is coincident that one of atang's mate is hosting iftar at a nearby mosque tomorrow and we are invited to come. Alhamdullillah, so InsyaAllah, tomorrow I am off from cooking, yippee.

Another thing that I am looking forward to is Nasi Kerabu, yes, you read it right. This Nasi Kerabu is so popular here, people have been talking about this Nasi Kerabu since we have Bazaar Ramadhan in 2008. It is so popular that you need to pre-order it, coz don't expect you can grab it at the bazaar, orang kata putih mata aje laaa. I recently talked to akak who prepared it, she said normally she would prepare around 80 packs per day, and from that amount only about 5 packs were unreserved, but within a split second that unreserved packs were gone. So I decided I must try this Nasi Kerabu this time, the only chance that I may have, and since this weekend is the last bazaar, I have pre-booked the Nasi Kerabu for this Saturday. Sempat kang I will take pictures, takut kang tak sabar nak makan, dah nak licin baru ingat, huhu. As a summary, I may not have to prepare main dishes for tomorrow and Saturday, prepare some kuih aje nanti, itupun kalau tak membeli kat bazaar. haha

Anyway, what I am going to write today is about an essay written by Yaya. It is one of her school assignment.
The title is,"My journey on a pirate ship". Don't ask me how on earth did she came up with the title, because Yaya herself don't have definite answer to that question. Ok without further ado, I present you Yaya's 1st essay.

My summary: Yaya and her family onboard a pirate ship to get to an island, so that she and her family can enjoy a delicious ice-cream and hot dog. Then we checked in into a hotel that have a spa, swimming pool and a beach. After a day at the beach, we had dinner at night. hahahahhaha.... I was smilling when I read this. I asked yaya, ice-cream and hot dog, bulan puasa nih, fikir makan aje laaa... hmmmm clearly she is like me, think about food all the time. Notice that atang was only mentioned at the end of the story, so bab makan-makan dulu only involved yaya, her sister and her mother. Adeh... another food lover in the family, tapi memang betul pun. Alhamdullillah, yaya is not fussy when it comes to food, but she is not that adventurous like her mama. She will only try something new after I have convince her many times.

Dah lame tak citer pasal our iftar food kan, well nothing to story actually, same old dishes everyday. I don't have time to experiment new thing, not anymore laaa. For yesterday's iftar I cooked maggi goreng. We had fried chickens from Country Chicken two days ago (ala-ala KFC camtu), and have 2 pieces left. So yesterday I cut them to small pieces and add them to the maggi goreng, with telur mata lembu. Fuhhhh...

Today, I think I will cooked chicken tom yam. Tonight I plan to visit my neighbour. She and her family is going back home for raya tomorrow morning. Ada benda nak kirim dari Malaysia nie, my ikan bilis, ikan masin is out of stock. So, that's it friends, till next time, selamat berbuka, biar sederhana.

Ramadhan Day 11: Spring has sprung?

Today is the 11th day of Ramadhan. Alhamdullillah, the weather is hot with mild wind today. I washed a load of clothes yesterday and today, opppsss not literally, the washing machine did that. And thankful for the sunny weather, the clothes dried up quickly. This morning atang and I had a bit of spring cleaning, eh dah spring ka? It is not until September for the spring to arrive, but it is getting warmer nowadays, I no longer have to wear jumper during the day, still need to wear pull-over at night, and still using quilts at night. Well, the kids kicked it away at night, I still pulled the quilts up to my head. I remember last year, somewhere in August, we thought that the winter was over, and it was time for spring cleaning. So I washed the quilt cover, jumper, changed the flannelette sheet, and stored them away. So confident that the winter has gone. And a few days later, it was cold again, end up I had to take out all the things that I had put away. So this year I will wait until spring to come, flowers blooming until I starts storing all the winter garmet. This time would be much easier, will put everything in the packing boxes, for give away and take home.

As I have mentioned in the previous entry, yesterday we went shopping instead of looking for used boxes. We went to DFO just to get new slip-on for my lil princesses. Each of them has a pair of slip-on for raya. For baju raya, hmmm not sure we will get them something new, because they still have several pairs of baju kurung from last year raya, some dresses and new t-shirts, so maybe we will buy when necessary. The shoes because yaya n adik don't have a nice pair of shoes to put on, and that was why we bought them each. Tak mo 'membrazir' (yaya slang of membazir). Although here the celebration boleh tahan juga, with open houses every weekend, tapi takkan sama like celebrating at home. So nak beli yang baru-baru pun macam kurang semangat sikit, plus I will definately busy after the eid, preparing for submission. I am more enthusiast with the submission than the eid preparation. Picture below shows yaya's n adik's raya shoes,

Raya shoes for lil princesses

Yesterday jugak was an election day for Australia. Tak tau pulak sape yang menang semalam. Sorry, malas nak ambil tau. Anyway, about iftar. A day before yesterday, that was Friday, mood malas nak masak tu datang. Actually I have no idea to cook, like I said in the Friday's entry. I was browsing through a few of my fav cyber chefs' blog until I saw encik Mat Gebu's sosej gulung rangup. I had a couple of instant pastry in the freezer, and I used them all, bagus2, habis kan semua, clear the fridge. Sausage puff for Friday's iftar.

Sausage wrap in instant pastry
Yesterday, since it was weekend, I spent my time in the kitchen and made mee kari. Our neighbour came and gave us mee goreng mamak.

My neighbour's mee goreng mamak (she's penang mari)

For today's iftar, I going to cook nasi ayam, kuih, maybe kuih bakar kot. OK laaa...I need to fill up a form then packing some clothes that I am not going to wear anymore in the box. Till we meet again, selamat berbuka, biar sederhana.

Ramadhan Day 9: Celoteh Yaya

Dah masuk hari ke 9 puasa. Dah tak tau apa nak masak dah, bila sibuk-sibuk nie rasa nak makan itu ini pun kurang, kalau ikutkan hati nak aje buka nasi dengan telur goreng aje...hahahhaha...tapi tak adil untuk atang dan yaya pulak. Pulak tu den dicutikan dari berpuasa nie, lagi la tak adil kan untuk orang yang berpuasa bila masak sempoi camtu yo. Tunggu weekend nie la kot-kot nak masak yang berat-berat sikit.

Ok...mood citer dalam bahasa ibunda den hari nie. Cuaca harinie tak la sejuk tapi tak la panas jugak, mendung kat luar, hujan awal pagi tadi. Nak berubah musim selalu camtu, hujan sekejap-sekejap, harap-harap hujung minggu nie tak la hujan, banyak baju nak basuh. Esok pun kami nak gi carik kotak untuk mula packing, tak boleh tunggu last minute, barang banyak. Almaklum 3 tahun lebih duduk sini, baju budak2 aje dah 3 kotak, baju mak abahnye dah baper, buku-buku, barang dapur mana nak bawak balik, mainan budak2 nie lagi.

Harinie nak citer pasal yaya. Sebab kawan-kawan semua puasa. Adeh....

Adeh la adik....yang adik pulak tengah kunyah fries dengan penuh perasaan, yela, dia bukan tau ape-ape pun. Banyak kali la jugak lepas tu kalau adik nak makan ape-ape, suh dia makan ontok2 dulu jauh dari yaya. Kesian kat yaya tu.

Lepas tu dia tanye lagi, "Aunty ### puasa tak?". Aunty ### pulak rujuk jiran seberang apartment kami nie. Haaa...dia mula la tu, dia ingat semua perempuan tak boleh puasa haritu. "Tak...

Sehingga jumpa lagi, selamat berbuka, biar sederhana.

Ramadhan day 1: Chilling wind but fair

It is windy now in Brisbane. I am practically shivering while typing this. But the sun is bright. What a wonderful day to start fasting today. Soon the winter will leave and the blooming season will come and visit us, for the last time.

Today is our first day of Ramadhan. Alhamdullillah, almost half of the day has pass by. Yaya is doing OK. I woke her up for sahur at 4.30am. Fasting started at 5.00 (5 minutes before Fajr). Alhamdullillah she didn't give any trouble waking up and having sahur. We had rice. Dah biasa makan nasi for sahur. We don't mind breaking fast with anything else, but for sahur, we must have nasi, otherwise by half of the day, perut pun mula berbunyi. Hopefully Yaya able to fast the whole day today. Luckily she has no school today. The school is close because of Ekka, kinda agricultural and industrial exhibition held annually in Brisbane. Macam ekspo pertanian kat Malaysia tu. But tomorrow the school opens, I wonder how she will be tomorrow.

OK for those who are wondering about abah (eh ada ke?) hehhehe... mmmm... starting Monday abah will undergo radiation therapy for 10 days, 2 days break in between. From the recent CT scan, the cancer has spread to the spleen and liver. It is about time for abah to start chemo, but most probably after raya. Sedih la jugak, tapi ini semua ketentuan Allah. Den pasrah. I only hope I have the chance to look after abah, hope nothing bad will happen with us still here. OK...tak nak fikir negative. Kita bertawakkal pada Allah.

So what to cook for iftar ya. I already took out chicken breast from the freezer, maybe chicken padprik and telur dadar. And will fry some of the frozen karipap I made last weekend.

Karipap frozen (tapi sebelum di frozen kan)

Ok, I still have 2 hours left to work on the chapter, until the iftar preparation. Breaking-fast time today is at 5.25pm. Until tomorrow, selamat berbuka, biar sederhana.

Ramadhan al mubarak: Ku sambut dengan penuh kegembiraan

sramadan194dt.jpg
Ramadan

Alhamdullillah, Thank you Allah for giving me another chance to perform fasting in the holy month of Ramadhan this year.

Selamat menyambut Ramadhan al-mubarak kengkawan.

Anyway, here in Queensland the first day of Ramadhan is tomorrow, yup, one day later than Malaysia. Kite ikut mufti sini la. Not only Queensland, Kak LG dekat Perth pun puasa besok jugak. Lain-lain state tak tau pulak den. Tapi memang biasa Queensland macam tu, puasa lewat sehari, tapi raya sama aje ngan Malaysia. hehehhehe...tapi tahun nie tak tau lagi.

hmmm..tahun nie kena pujuk yaya puasa cukup sebulan. tahun lepas yaya dapat puasa sebulan, well, according to her she did, but according to mak n bibik, they saw yaya went to the pantry for some cookies during the day. ahahahahhaha... but takpe laaa...baru belajar. At least after I talked to her about the cookies thing, of coz she denied it, and I took her words, lepas haritu nampak dia betul2 puasa, sebab lembik sikit. ahahahhahha... hopefully this year she will manage to complete the whole Ramadhan month.

Sebelum tu nak kena ajar yaya niat puasa dan berbuka, mesti dia lupe dah tu:

Niat Puasa:

Niat berbuka puasa:

Terima kasih Upin Ipin

(den cilok dari IQWA)

OK laaa... since this is our last Ramadhan here, I will try and write one post a day about the fasting and iftar. Sahur mesti nak nasik jugak.

Ramadhan has lift my spirit, Alhamdullillah. Amin.

Happy Birthday Abah/Atok

Today, Abah turns one year older. Alhamdullillah, syukur to Allah, for Abah is still here with us, and we are given the opportunity to celebrate abah's birthday this year (though we are far away). We wish abah is bless with better health, and given more strength to fight the cancer. Allah, please give me a chance to look after him. Please let me realised his dream. Please Allah, he is my inspiration, my courage is his words, my knowledge is his wisdom, my dignity is his respect. Please protect him from any harm and wrong doing. Amin.

I have recorded a video of yaya n adik singing the birthday song and mailed the CD last week. Was informed that abah's laptop is not working, don't know if he could play the CD anywhere, or have access to internet. Anyway, enjoy the video.

Happy Birthday Abah. Maaf, dah 4 tahun tak dapat celebrate birthday sama. Next year kita celebrate OK, InsyaAllah. I will always be your little girl.

Yaya and her school homework

Since Yaya started schooling, I keep comparing my school years with her. I remembered those wonderful time I had, although everyday was not always fun, but I am missing every single day of it. That include the days that I had to stand on a chair for two periods for not memorising the congak, the day that I was kicked on the stomach by an angry boy who thought I told the classroom teacher that he refused to cooperate with the classroom duty, the day that I have to walk a few blocks because I'd missed the school bus (was waiting for my turn of aiskrim potong from a street hawker) hahahahah....and a lot more, surely writing about those memories would take days and can't fit in just one entry.

Hmm...wait...where am I going with this. I want to write about Yaya. Oh yes... this is about school homework. I remembered that everyday, the teachers would left us with many homeworks, at least one for each subject, and everyday, I need to speed a few hours to do it and make revisions. I guess nowdays is pretty much the same in Malaysia right.

Over here, they kids do get homework, but it was sooo easy compare to what I had in those years. The teacher will set up the homework for the whole week on Monday, and the kids can do them any time they like before Friday. On Friday all homework will be passed up. Except for writing, they have to do it everyday. Well if I was Yaya, I can complete everything in just one sitting, hahahahahhaha... So Yaya becomes lazy when doing her homework. Everyday I have to nag her to do it properly. To write the letter clearly, to colour those pictures nicely, to count carefully. Often she had to redo the writing, the colouring and the counting after I have reviewed her work. Aduhaiiiiiii....geram betul. I keep telling her, "Yaya kalau kat Malaysia nie, lagi banyak tau, cikgu pun tak bagi kakak A, you will get an E". Tapi susah gak nak explain, because over here the teacher will not grade the work, well at least for year 2 students. So she can't imagine what I meant by grading A or E.

Tension jugak makcik tu when I keep pestering her to do the homework yang tak seberapa tu properly.

Then one day, she came home with an award.

Her first award this year. Dah pandai tengok jam dah....hehehehhehhe So all my nagging have finally paid off .... but still a lot more to go. Although the teachers do not grade the students' work, but they do give award occasionally. Mesti balik Malaysia Yaya kena kejutan budaya in term of homework nih!!

And the school also provided access to the students to do Mathletics through internet. Yaya will spend between 20 - 30 minutes doing mathematic exercises everyday. Usually when I am not using the machine.

And often adik will sit next to Yaya macam paham la apa yang kakak dia buat :D

Yaya's has a new ....errr some new pets

Bile stick insect tak jadi, yaya minta lain pulak...

"Mama, can I have some bettles? Everyone is going to take them home".
"Some what?", I asked.
"Bettle, you know like a ladybird. I can take care of them. I will feed them with some carrots, lettuce or apples. Ms R says I can take them home if I have the permission."
"But you just had the stick insect, and it's dead." I said
"Owwwhhhh.... please Ma....I promise I will look after them."

Aduhai....kesian pulak dengar. So I agreed to Yaya's request and let her adopt some bettles. At that time, in my mind, I imagined a friendly bettle like the ladybird. Upon hearing my approval, Yaya rushed into the kitchen, looked into the cabinet for a container.

And on the day she returned with the bettle, I was at the office. Just before she was going to bed, she realised she had not introduced me to her new bettle friend.

"Mama, nie la bettle too," said Yaya while holding the container.
Excited, I went closer to her. And what a shocked I had when I saw what was inside the container.

"Eeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii........ apa nih kakak!! This is not bettle."
"Yela...these are mealworms. Nanti dah besar dia jadi bettle laaaa." Yaya tries to explain to her Mama yang dah rasa geli gelaman.......eeeeeeeiiii

"Ok laaa....but don't ask me to feed or do anything to the bettle ekkk... Mama geli."

Tapi bila dah sehari dua dok tengok, rasa menarik jugak. Berani la jugak telek-telek dan amik gambar. Hahhahaha. Ada citer pasal carrot tu...

"Yaya, who cut the carrot for you?"
"Kakak laaa...." Yaya said.
"Eh...kan mama kata jgn usik pisau." I said.
"No...tu kan carrot dari lauk ayam (padprik) yg Mama masak tu. Kakak basuh dulu."
"Laaaaaaaaa......" den geleng kepala aje laaa...patut la tgk ada bettle yg dah terbalik, kaki kat atas. Penangan padprik rupenya.

Yaya...Yaya...

Of friends and families, a lesson for Yaya

I had several heart to heart talked with Yaya last week and a week before. Of late I saw Yaya a bit quiet and kept to herself a lot. Plus she was under the weather a week ago, and not able to attend school for a couple of days. According to her, she is unhappy, in a way. Actually she is happy, but not quite like she is back at home. I know she misses home a lot. So we had a long chat, trying hard to teach her a lesson or two about life at the same time. Eventually, she looked happy after we talked about it. I realised we have not spending a lot of time together lately,  and might be the reason for this.

One of the chat we had is about her getting along at school. One day I was curious with whom she had lunch with everyday. I was shocked when she said nobody. This is the 2nd term of school, and yet she still has difficulty in making friends. I knew from the beginning, when she started schooling early this year, that she might face communication problem. Although she had attended kindy and prep here, and that was a year ago before she had to return home and continue schooling at her kampung. A year away, and she had neglected this second language. Malay is the medium of communication back home, though at school she learnt English and her grandparents frequently speak English, but the environment makes her feel more comfortable speaking in our mother tongue.

Quite surprising I was, of coz, because when we first arrived here, she adapted to this foreign environment easily. In fact, her first day at the kindy, she survived without me around. I had to leave her as I had to attend a class. Within a month, she spoke English, with oz slang without any hesitation. And when we went home in year 2008 to celebrate Eid, she faced problem speaking in Malay. I remembered a scene at a playground, when Yaya tried to speak to other children and making friends, she tried her best to talk to them, in English, and there was a kid who said, "Apa la budak nie cakap..." Poor Yaya. However, she kept trying to make the conversation, and eventually she managed to join in.

But things have changed. Now she is too shy to speak, and from the talk we had, I discovered that her major problem with making friends at school is communication. She is afraid to talk to people because she is unable to speak better. She has no problem with English. She can speak good English, but what she is lacking is the capacity to deliver it confidently. Her shy overcomes her confident thus lead to fear. Plus she said, "all her classmate have their own group of friends, I don't know how to talk to them". I said to her that your classmates have known each other a long time before you were here, of course they talked and walked together and be with each other almost all the time. But if you don't walk up to them and introduce yourself, they will never know you. So I teach her a trick. The trick is, smile and introduce yourself. "Say Hi! My name is Aleeya. You can call me Yaya. Can I sit with you?" In my heart, hope this will work for her.

Another thing that I told Yaya is, the value of friendship. Actually am not a good person to give advise about friendship. I had a handful of experiences with friends, both good and bad. So I told yaya, friends are important, but not as important as your family. Friends can come and go, but only a good one remains and understand you in and out. A good friend is not easy to find. And when you found one, try your very best to maintain the relationship. I also shared word of wisdom given by my grandpa to my mom and her siblings, "Lakunya kamu kerana laku kamu". Meaning, people will accept you of who you are, just be yourself, and don't pretend to be someone you are not. After all you can never please everybody.

However, the one relationship to protect most is, between you and your family. Because
these are the people who will always be with you no matter what, through thick and thin, and accept you in what shape you are in. These are the people who will support you in anyway they can. These are the people who will pray for your success, health and hope that you will under Allah's blessing all the time. This was the serious talk I had with yaya, in fact it was the first one. I didn't know how much she can digest, but very hope she gets the message.

Sigh.... it really has been a very long time since I last sat down with yaya, and asked her how is she getting along. A very long time since I last gave my full attention to her. My fault really, been busy with the work. I took a lot of things for granted. And I regretted it. Try my best to NOT repeat it again.

I know Mother's Day has gone weeks ago, but I want to share you a gift that I received from Yaya on Mother's Day.

A keychain that she made at school. The school provided the keychain to all student studying at Ironside State School. So Yaya wrote a message on a piece of paper and inserted it into the keychain. She did asked for a few dollars to buy me something from the Mother's Day stalls held at her school. But I refused and say that she doesn't have to buy me anything. A prayer for my health and success is the most precious gift for me. I don't need a special day to celebrate, everyday is a mother's day for me, because I got to spend my day with my two lil' princesses, the best gifts that Allah has bestowed upon me.
Before ending this long entry, I would like to thank everyone who has been following my blog and left comments be it an advise or opinion or just to say hi. Thank you thank you thank you. I appreciate all the friendship started from this blog and hope we will remain friend forever.

p.s. When this post is published, Yaya has making progress in developing friendship. She now has a group of friend to have lunch with everyday.

Yaya with her Goliath Stick insect: The End

After week four, still nothing. And so we decided, to give it a rest. Pronounce dead at week four.

I googled for a few pictures of the insect. So this is how a Goliath Stick insect, or its scientific name "Eurycnema Goliath", looks like.

Macam mentadak kan...tapi besar. This insect is very prominent in Australia. Kalau la menentas dan membesar...takut gak den nak menjaganya. Anyway, if you want to know more about this insect, I provided you with this link .

Bila dia mula mengira...

Once a upon a time, in a place far far away, there live a family of four, who just had breakfast on one weekday morning.

Amacam boleh tulis buku cerita for kids tak?? hehehe

OK OK... I have a story to tell. One day, I was helping Yaya getting ready for school. I opened her closet, but stop when I saw a calendar on her closet door. It is not about why the calendar is on that door for I was the one who printed the calendar so that she can cross-out the day, and be more vigilant of the days and the months. I occasionally check the calendar, to make sure she did her task properly.

So on that day, I saw she made a circle on the 1st September.

So I asked her, "Yaya, why did you circle the 1st of September?". She replied, "Because it is my birthday, and I want to remember that." "But your birthdate is not 1st of September", I said. "Owwhhh... so when is it?", she asked. "It's 21st of September", I said, and making a face to her.

So she went back to her room, to make the correction. After atang sent her off, I walked back to her room, to check on the calendar, make sure she got it right this time. And what I saw made me laugh...

Besides making the correction to her birthdate, she add another circle on the month of October, and wrote, " ..balik Malaysia lagi..." ahahhahaha ahahahhah  ahahahhah... where did she get the idea, though I did told her we will go back somewhere in Sept or October (InsyaAllah), but no exact date. What I can only presumed is she got it from her grandma. A night before, I heard her talking to Mak, and I did hear she said October. I assumed Mak said to her, "1st October kakak balik..." hmmmmm....

I know she misses her wan and atok, and her cat, and her friends, and her..... Mama pun rindu gak...waaaaaa

Aiyoh....itu bulatan bikin stress laaaaa.....And I didn't asked her why she made that additional circle, for am afraid I can't give her a good answer.

So that is the end of the story.. the moral of the story is....don't give your kid a calendar/diary ...hahaha

Kite gi dinggum

Diggum is adik's jargon when she is referring to playground. Don't ask me how on earth she came up with that word, because neither I nor atang knows how.

Today, I don't have anything to ramble, just wanna post some of many pictures taken from the day out at Portside Wharf. Of all playgrounds we have been to, this is the best so far. The amenities, kids attractions are excellent, I especially like the breeze, and the view. Both yaya and adik love the place, maybe we will come again. OK enough say, enjoy the pictures.

A pose before leaving the apartment.

Yaya's favorite activity. These pictures were taken before she started to freak out of not able to climb further and the idea of jumping down scared her. She started crying for babah, but babah was looking after adik at the sandpit. End up I had to drag, well literally pull her down, eventhough she resisted, and later merajuk. hehe

Adik enjoys the sand.

Siap baring atas pasir...punye la suke dapat main pasir.

Main frisbee pulak, while adik can't still leave her sandpit

Going home, but first we need to wash our legs and hands.

Adik said bye-bye to the playground, "Bye-bye dinggum". She will always bid farewell to any dinggum before leaving. Sentimental betul budak kecik nih...

Yaya with her Goliath Stick insect: Week 2

One day when I pickup Yaya at her school, she told me that one of her friends' insect egg has hatched. "Ms Rodgers said (her classroom teacher), the egg has turned into a nymph, Mama...What is a nymph?". I told her a nymph is like a baby, it has not fully develop to turn into an insect yet. And while driving home, I wonder how Yaya's egg is doing.

So this is a picture taken on Friday. After a week, nothing has changed.  I think the egg didn't survive under our care. I told Yaya, the probability that her goliath egg will not hatch. She just asked me why, but with not much regret. I thought she would be dissappointed. Maybe this does not excite her much.

We will wait for another week, maybe the nymph is not ready to leave its cozy home yet. Wait and see.

Yaya with her Goliath Stick insect: Week 1

Yaya came home yesterday with a bag containing some gum tree leaves (eucalyptus tree) and a small transparent plastic bottle in it. "Mak mak.... I have a stick insect...look"....and she started giving me instructions and an a piece of paper describing what she has to do with it.

"Your child has been given a live stick insect egg that could hatch over the next few weeks. Stick insects are fun and easy to care for, just follow the simple instructions below"...

First we need to transfer the egg to a bigger container and provide a good ventilation. Done
Then place a moistened tissue next to the egg to prevent from drying. Done
Next...wait for the egg to hatch within 3 to 4 weeks.

Lets see what will happen next week.

Who rules the kitchen

I am watching My Kitchen Rules while typing this entry. Right now, Veronica and Shadi are competing with Mossy and Gabe for a spot to the final. There will be two teams competing in the final. The other spot, won by Noah and Clinton automatically, because they have the higest score. Fuhhh... suspense pulak den tengok. I have been following this series since the beginning.....arrghhhh now the judges are scoring.....now the advertisements are on.....suspense.... ok ok...den citer dulu laa.... gosh!! have a lot to say here, bit little time to spend....here goes....

I had a very constructive and good meeting today. Now I know what I should do for the data analysis. Although there are loads of things to get done. At least one problem has resolved. Alhamdullillah, Allah has shown me the path.

OK....they are going to announce the result. Jap ekkk.....(boleh pulak)....haaaa...dah agak dah...veronica and shadi won... can't wait for the final's next week...ok now we talk about my kitchen yaa...hahahahhahaha

I cooked simple nasik goreng today. This is a very significant dish in my life, because.... because mak cooks her nasi goreng like this. Cooked rice, with ikan bilis, shallots, garlic and eggs. With oyster sauce and light soy sauce for seasoning. During weekend when there are some left over rice from yesterday's dinner, mak would fried the rice for brekkie on Sunday. Sometimes, when I was little, I showed resentment when mak made nasi goreng almost every weekend. I would choose a couple of toast over her nasi goreng. But when I moved out from the cocoon, after I got married, I missed her nasi goreng...hahahahha...so boring kan. Thus, whenever we went down to my parents' place, and saw her nasi goreng under the tudung saji, wahhh.... I was sooo happy...and...makan la apa lagi. Ahhh I missed mak and her cooking (emotional)

So for dinner tonight, I prepared nasik goreng just like how mak prepares it. Though this is not the first time I cooked this dish, I still couldn't get the taste right. I guess the saying, "air tangan" is right after all ekkk.... We had some daging masak merah left over from yesterday's dinner. Being a mom, wife and a full-time student, recycle meals are acceptable kan...ahahhaha... Am lucky to have a family who is not fussy.

There are going to be a lot of things happening from tomorrow onwards. Tomorrow I am meeting yaya's teacher about her progress in the classroom. Yaya has her first 'show and tell' tomorrow. When I asked her what is she planning to talk about in that session, she immediately said her barbie doll. What!! I said one straight NO! to her. No toys please. You are too old to talk about a doll (yes, I am being the garang mom). Plus, I don't want her to bring any toys to school, afraid she will misplace or forgets to bring it home. I said, "Why don't you talk about your glasses?" She reluctant at first, but after I gave her some good reasons, she agreed to it. Then I helped her in preparing the text for her to read. She has practiced it, and hope she could deliver it well tomorrow.

Next, I need to call up panel doctor to book an appointment for medical check-up, for visa renewal. Hope I am able to submit the application before end of this month. Then, loads of writing to do. And data analysis. And reports. And...... don't know when I will see the end of the list. But I know there will be the end of all this. Can't wait to go home, and see all the familiar and friendly faces again.

I come to end of this entry. Atang had looked and try to fix my camera. Unscrewing the screw was laborious job (no wonder the fixing charge is soo expensive). There were so tiny, and atang doesn't has the right tool. When he finally removed the casing, he met with another set of tiny screws, and he gave up. Then he gave me many reasons; afraid that a spring will pop up laa, tak nampak laaa, nanti susah nak pasang balik laaa....hahahahhahah...so I told atang, it's ok if you can't do it. I still have my phone camera, besides, my photography mood has gone. Don't think we will visit any new and interesting places in near time. Kalau ada rezeki sok...beli a new one. Sounds like merajuk kan...ahahahhahah... psychology tu...huhu...don't know if atang will get the hint

OK...adik is calling me to bed. She still needs me cuddling her to sleep. And I have one paper to read tonight.

p.s. dapat comment arinie...sekali ter select reject la pulak....
